FROM HEAVEN ABOVE

Two German carols "Dear Nightingale, Awake!" (Die Weihnachtsnachtigall) and "Descend from Heaven" (Suanni) are paired with a third setting in which the choral melody "From Heaven Above" (Vom Himmel hoch) appears as the cantus firmus in the pedal line under "While by my Sheep" (Echo Carol/Jungst). These are well-crafted settings in Robert Powell's solid and sensible style with a great deal of variety in texture.
