From Waverly, Iowa, Reuss is introduced to the Augsburg Fortress catalog with these brilliant settings on sturdy ecumenical hymn tunes. A 3-part setting of Truro opens with a mixed meter dance, moving to a lyrical section that later breaks forth into a joyful fanfare. There's a deliberate regal march on Diademata, an excitingly adventuresome postlude on Ein feste Burg which makes good use of the organ's orchestral sounds. Not everything is a loud fanfare, however; to contrast, you will find a fourpart setting of Freu dich sehr; a meditation on Slane, a Bachlike trio on Liebster Jesu, wir sind hier; and more.
